Senior citizen loses ₱6,000 pension to pickpocket in Quezon City

A 71-year-old woman lost her ₱6,000 pension after a pickpocket stole her wallet outside a printing shop in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City, on Wednesday morning, July 30. The theft was caught on CCTV.

In the footage, the suspect is seen approaching an elderly couple, engaging them in a conversation before handing them a small piece of paper to write down their personal details.

While the woman was distracted, the suspect discreetly took her wallet from a red bag and hid it inside her clothing before walking away.

The couple had just withdrawn their ₱6,000 pension from a barangay payout center when the incident happened.

“Bigla lang siyang lumapit at nagsabi na wag na kayo bumili ng bigas kasi may nagpapamigay na kongresista ng bigas tag limang kilo,” recounted the 71-year-old woman.
“Di ko pala namalayan na dinukot na pala yung wallet ko.”
Her husband, also 71, lamented the loss: “Mahalaga talaga, dun nakasalalay ang aming pamumuhay at sa sakit ng pamilya ko. Si misis may sakit tapos 'yung anak ko dina-dialysis.”

Barangay Kagawad Elmer Buena confirmed that another senior citizen had also been victimized by the same woman earlier that day.

Later, someone returned the victim’s wallet after finding it on a tricycle, but the ₱6,000 cash was gone.

The victim made a heartfelt appeal to the suspect: “Sana po maalala mo 'yung ginawa mo samin kasi malaking halaga samin 'yung kinuha mo. Sana pagsisihan mo ang ginawa mo.”

CCTV footage shows the truck driver, who has been identified and taken into custody, attempting to swerve to avoid the crash. The driver is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double hom1cide and serious physical injuries.

Still in other news, four individuals were injured in an explosion on Tayuman and Dagupan Streets in Tondo, Manila. The blast was caused by a dismantled air-conditioning compressor that was being scavenged. One of the victims sustained a severed hand and another suffered a jaw injury, while two others had minor injuries. The Manila Police District's Explosive Ordnance Division and Scene of the Crime Operatives are investigating the incident and have ruled out a bomb as the cause.
