The victim was allegedly hacked by his 21-year-old drinking companion after cautioning him against causing trouble while intoxicated.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, has prompted a manhunt for the fleeing assailant.

According to a report by GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, the two individuals were engaged in a drinking session when the older man, whose identity has not yet been fully released by authorities, advised his younger companion to maintain composure and avoid disruptive behavior when under the influence of alcohol.

This well-intentioned counsel, however, appeared to have been gravely misinterpreted or taken offense to by the 21-year-old suspect.

Following the exchange, the suspect reportedly left the drinking venue in a huff. Witnesses indicate he returned shortly thereafter, armed with a bolo or machete.

Without warning, he allegedly lunged at the unsuspecting victim, delivering a forceful blow to the head. The sudden and brutal assault left the 39-year-old victim bleeding profusely and in critical condition.

Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, and the injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital.

He is currently undergoing treatment for the severe head wound, with medical staff working to stabilize his condition. The full extent of his injuries and his prognosis are still being assessed.

Meanwhile, the assailant fled the scene immediately after the attack. Local police in Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya, have launched an extensive search operation to apprehend the suspect.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to his arrest. The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly seemingly minor disputes can escalate into grave violence, particularly when alcohol is involved.
