The brutal crime was reportedly witnessed by the couple’s 10-year-old child, adding a layer of profound trauma to the already devastating incident.
Police authorities in Rodriguez, Rizal, identified the victim as an educator, while her 37-year-old husband has been apprehended as the primary suspect.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Paul Sabulao, Chief of the Rodriguez, Rizal Police, the fatal altercation stemmed from an argument between the couple that escalated rapidly.
"They had an argument early in the morning, which led to the victim being doused with coffee before the suspect grabbed a knife and repeatedly stabbed her," Lt. Col. Sabulao stated in a recent report.
Investigators are looking into jealousy as the primary motive behind the attack. Police indicated that a social media post made by the victim, which reportedly displeased her husband, along with her late arrivals home, were among the triggers for their dispute.
The tragic incident was not an isolated one. Authorities revealed a history of domestic strife between the couple.
The victim had previously filed a complaint against her husband for alleged physical abus3 towards their child.
This prior complaint led to an attempt at reconciliation through a settlement, which resulted in the suspect temporarily leaving their shared residence in an effort to create distance and diffuse tensions.
Despite this, the underlying issues seemingly remained unresolved, culminating in Wednesday's deadly confrontation.
Following the stabbing, the husband immediately fled the scene. However, an immediate manhunt operation was launched by local police, which led to his apprehension shortly thereafter in Barangay San Isidro, another community within Rodriguez.
He is currently in police custody as formal charges are being prepared against him.
The fact that the couple's young child was present and witnessed the horrific act amplifies the tragedy, highlighting the devastating impact of domestic violence that extends beyond the immediate victims.
Incidents of spousal violence continue to be a significant concern in the Philippines, with advocacy groups constantly pushing for stronger enforcement of protective laws and greater public awareness campaigns.
The Rodriguez police are continuing their in-depth investigation to gather all pertinent details and ensure justice for the deceased teacher and her family.
The case serves as a grim reminder of the critical need for effective interventions in cases of domestic disputes to prevent such tragic outcomes.
