Thick black smoke filled the air after a ship caught fire at sea near Turtle Island in Tawi-Tawi. The incident happened earlier this week and was reported by GMA 7's 'Balitanghali' on Tuesday.
Another smaller boat near the ship also caught fire. People in nearby boats saw what was happening and rushed to help.
Authorities are still trying to find out what caused the fire.
It can be recalled that the most unforgettable sea accident in the Philippines is the MV Doña Paz tragedy, which happened on December 20, 1987.

The passenger ferry collided with the oil tanker MT Vector in Tablas Strait, between Mindoro and Leyte.
The collision caused a massive explosion and fire, as the tanker was carrying flammable cargo.
More than 4,000 people were killed, making it the deadliest peacetime maritime disaster in world history. Only 24 people survived.
The ferry was overcrowded, had no working radio, and lifeboats were not properly used. Many of the victims were not even listed on the official passenger manifest.
This tragedy revealed serious safety problems in the maritime system and left a lasting mark on the country’s history.

In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. According to the report of EJ Gomez in 'Unang Balita,' the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school's faculty room. Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
