At just 31 years old, the eldest son of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has made history, becoming the youngest legislator to ever hold this powerful position in the modern Philippine House of Representatives.

The announcement, which followed weeks of speculation, took place during Monday morning's inaugural session of the new Congress.
Acting Floor Leader Lorenz Defensor of Iloilo's 3rd District nominated Rep. Marcos for the coveted role.
His appointment was subsequently affirmed in plenary by the newly-installed House Speaker, Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, without any objection from the assembled members.
This swift ascent marks a notable trajectory for the young lawmaker. During his inaugural term in the recently concluded 19th Congress, Rep. Marcos served as Senior Deputy Majority Leader, a key leadership position just one step below the top majority leadership post.
His rapid rise to the House's operational helm reflects both a strong endorsement from his colleagues and a strategic consolidation of influence within the legislative branch.
As the House Majority Leader, colloquially known as the "bastonero" (a term connoting leadership, coordination, and shepherding), Rep. Marcos will shoulder immense responsibilities.
His primary function will be to orchestrate the legislative agenda and direct the flow of deliberations on the plenary floor.
Crucially, he automatically assumes the chairmanship of the powerful Committee on Rules, which serves as the gatekeeper for all bills and resolutions, determining their priority and scheduling for discussion. This role places him at the very heart of the legislative process.
Sources from within the House indicated that while Rep. Marcos himself did not openly lobby for the position, a significant number of his colleagues actively advocated for his promotion.
Their support reportedly stemmed not merely from his familial ties to the President and Speaker Romualdez (who is also his cousin) but from observations of his "diplomatic ways" in guiding fellow legislators during the 19th Congress.
Despite being a neophyte lawmaker in his first term, he reportedly demonstrated a keen understanding of parliamentary procedures and an ability to mediate among diverse interests.
During his tenure in the 19th Congress, Rep. Marcos was credited with authoring or co-authoring 254 bills and resolutions.
He was also a prominent signatory for several measures identified by the Executive branch as priority legislation for his father's administration, including the controversial Maharlika Investment Fund bill.
His proactive engagement in lawmaking and his demonstrated aptitude for legislative work are believed to have contributed to the confidence reposed in him by the majority bloc.
Rep. Marcos’ appointment further solidifies the political synergy between the legislative and executive branches, with the President's eldest son now holding a pivotal position in the House led by his cousin.
All eyes will undoubtedly be on the young Majority Leader as he navigates the complex political landscape, tasked with shepherding critical administration bills and ensuring the efficient functioning of the 20th Congress.
Ferdinand Alexander Araneta Marcos III, better known as Sandro Marcos, is the son of President Bongbong Marcos and Atty. Liza Araneta. The young Marcos, the eldest of among three siblings, is a Representative of the 1st district of Ilocos Norte. He is the grandson of the late President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos and First Lady Imelda Marcos.
Five months ago, Cong. Sandro was reportedly the first to sign the fourth impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Before signing, Sandro asked for some advice from his father, Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. In an interview with the press people, the House Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Representative shared what his father told him.“ And tama naman yung sinabi niya,” Sandro likewise reacted.
During the same interview with press people, he also cited his reasons for taking the lead in signing the impeachment complaint. The Presidential son also stressed that his move should not come as a surprise. It can be recalled that a total of 215 out of 306 House members supported the impeachment complaint against the country’s second-in-command.
