The devastating landslide occurred on Thursday in Barangay Iruhin West, Tagaytay City, when a wall structure collapsed, burying a barracks occupied by workers.

Immediately following the incident, rescue teams managed to retrieve one fatality, while two others were reported missing amidst the rubble and debris.

On Friday, search and rescue operations tragically turned into retrieval efforts as the bodies of the two missing individuals were discovered.

They had been trapped under a combination of collapsed roofing materials and earth.

A relative of one of the victims, interviewed by Chino Gaston for GMA News' "24 Oras," described the harrowing scene, stating, "Yung mga bubong ang nakatabon sa kaniya. Bubong ng yero, tiyaka ng lupa"

Jose Clyde Yayong, Head of the Tagaytay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), provided further details on the structural failure.

"Initially po, ang nangyari ay nagkaroon po ng collapse ng structure ng wall. Nag-collapse, kaya po yung lupa sa taas ay gumuho po papunta dun sa side ng mayroon pong barracks nung worker naman po sa kabilang property," Yayong explained.

The local government of Tagaytay City has expressed its condolences and pledged support for the affected families.

They announced that they would assist with the burial arrangements for the victims and facilitate the transportation of their remains back to their respective hometowns.

The incident has also raised questions about accountability and property regulations at the inter-LGU boundary.

Tagaytay City Mayor Brent Tolentino addressed this complex issue, noting the geographical nuance of the collapse.

"It’s a bit tricky sir, kasi yung nag-collapse na wall is on Silang side, diba yung nahulugan lang is from the other property is Tagaytay," Mayor Tolentino stated.

He emphasized the need for inter-local government unit (LGU) coordination to address the matter.

"We would have to coordinate again with the LGU of Silang regarding their permits if they were updated and checked accordingly," he added, indicating a potential inquiry into the structural integrity and permitting of the wall on the Silang side.
