According to Maki Pulido’s report on Unang Balita this Friday, the victim was recovered by personnel of the San Mateo MDRRMO.

He was last seen riding his motorcycle on Monday, July 21, when floodwaters dragged him away while crossing a creek in Barangay Puray, Rodriguez.

Despite receding floods, many affected residents in San Mateo are still struggling to recover. Delia Obrenario, a fish vendor from Barangay Maly, lamented that her family has no income due to continuous bad weather.

She’s also worried about repairing their house as the wooden structures have further deteriorated after being soaked.

“Kinakabahan pa rin ako. Lalo na sa gabi hindi ako makatulog. Sabi ko umuulan na naman. Iniisip ko, sabi ko baka bumahan na naman,” Obrenario said.

Meanwhile, Rosemarie Señorin’s family returned to their home in Barangay San Jose from the evacuation center, only to find mud-soaked belongings.

With just a pack of noodles and a small canned good left from relief supplies, Señorin shared, “Wala na po kami kakainin po. Iniisip po namin paano kami kakain po. Gutom din po ‘yung mga bata.”

Residents recounted that floodwaters rose rapidly on Monday night. Amid heavy rains, a section of a riprap from a DPWH flood control project collapsed.

“Kagagawa lang po niyan talaga. Kampante po kami. Sabi nga namin, ano ba nangyari diyan? Bakit nga ganiyan ang ginawa nila? Halos wala pa po isang taon,” said Jenifer Abejo, a resident of Barangay San Jose.
