A student with autism has graduated summa cum laude from De La Salle University, one of the country’s most prestigious institutions, as per a News5 report.

Juan Alfonzo “Japonz” Dacumos, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology graduate, earned the highest academic distinction in his batch.

Despite having a developmental condition, Dacumos exhibited courage, determination, and discipline that paved the way for his success.

He was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) during his teenage years.

Instead of being discouraged, he used his condition as motivation to focus on learning, pursue his dreams, and help others.

According to Dacumos, his family, teachers, and the school’s support system played a vital role in helping him overcome academic challenges.

“I am grateful to my alma mater for fostering a learning environment that is inclusive and supportive of students with different needs,” he shared.

Dacumos is now planning to continue his education through graduate studies to become a clinical psychologist.

He hopes to be a voice for the neurodivergent community and advocate for greater awareness and understanding.

His story has since gone viral on social media, inspiring many—especially parents and students who are in similar situations.

Dacumos’ journey proves that developmental conditions do not define a person’s potential.

Through perseverance and a strong support network, he has become a symbol of hope and a testament that neurodivergent individuals can achieve excellence.
