The Rizal Police Provincial Office identified the victims as 12-year-old Gene Heinrich Dacumos and 10-year-old Ruben Cioseph Giray Cubilla, both residents of Binangonan, Rizal.
According to the Morong Municipal Police Station, the incident happened on Saturday but was only reported to them the following morning, July 20.
Initial investigation revealed that the two boys were last seen near a bridge in the area, accompanied by Gene's younger sibling, who witnessed the tragic moment when the current pulled them into the river.

“He admitted he became afraid and did not immediately inform his parents or alert the authorities. He only reported the incident on Sunday morning,” police said.
The Morong MPS quickly coordinated with the MDRRMO, BPSO personnel, and volunteer responders for a search and rescue operation.
Despite heavy rains, the body of Dacumos was recovered on Monday, July 21, near the Tanay Dik& by rescuers from Barangay San Isidro, Tanay, in coordination with the Coast Guard, PNP Tanay, and Tanay MDRRMO. Cubilla’s remains were found the next day.

Through social media, the victims’ mothers expressed their heartbreak.
“Palagi kang mananatili sa aking puso… Hindi kita malilimutan, mahal na mahal ka ni mama,” wrote Dacumos’ mother.
“Sana kung may susunod na buhay man, ikaw pa rin ang magiging anak ko,” Cubilla’s mom said.
