A police officer was injured after being accidentally electr&cuted during a communication drill in Barangay Tolarucan, Mina, Iloilo, on July 16, News5 reported.

The victim, identified as Police Staff Sergeant Escarola, sustained second-degree burns on his neck and hands when an exposed live wire suddenly exploded while he was transmitting a message over a radio system.
“May open live wire kasi tapos pag-transmit niya biglang sumabog ang live wire,” said PCPT Isagani Tabares, the officer in charge during the drill.
According to authorities, the incident occurred during a routine simulation exercise that involved the use of radio communication equipment near a power line.

It was not immediately known that a live wire in the vicinity had been left exposed, posing a hazard to the officers on site.
Escarola was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital where he received treatment.
Despite suffering from burns, he responded well to medical care and has since been discharged. He has now returned to active duty.
This incident raises concerns about safety protocols during field exercises, particularly in areas where electrical infrastructure may pose a threat.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Iloilo has stated that it will conduct a review of safety guidelines and coordinate with local electric cooperatives to ensure that similar accidents are prevented in the future.
Residents in Mina have also been reminded to report exposed electrical wires or damaged posts to the authorities or utility companies to help avoid further accidents.
