An early morning argument between an ex-couple ended in a road accident after the SUV they were riding crashed into a gutter in front of San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City.

According to PMaj. Elmer Bonilla, head of the Bacolod Police Traffic Management Unit, the crash occurred at around 2:00 a.m. The SUV was traveling from east to west when the incident happened.

Witnesses at the scene said the vehicle suddenly swerved and slammed directly into the gutter in front of the church. The impact destroyed a portion of the church's exterior railings and caused the SUV to mount the sidewalk.

Investigators revealed that the driver, identified only as alias Adrian, 30, was arguing with his ex-girlfriend, alias Hannah, also 30, inside the vehicle moments before the crash. Their heated confrontation is believed to have led to the loss of control.

Hannah sustained minor physical injuries and was immediately brought to the hospital for treatment. Adrian, meanwhile, was brought to Police Station 1 for proper investigation and processing.

Residents and individuals sleeping on the sidewalk expressed relief that no one was lying in the area at the time of the accident. They said it was a close call that could have resulted in serious casualties.

Authorities are now evaluating possible charges, and the damaged church property is being assessed for repair. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of emotional distractions while driving.
