President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced on Wednesday that senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs) will now enjoy a 50% fare discount when riding LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3.
The announcement took place at the MRT-3 Santolan-Annapolis southbound station, with Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati present.
Marcos mentioned that this new discount follows the 50% train fare discount already granted to students starting June, helping lessen their travel expenses.

According to Marcos, approximately 13 million senior citizens and seven million PWDs will benefit from the increased discount.
Before this, seniors and PWDs only received a 20% discount, meaning the government added an additional 30% to reach a total of 50%.
Secretary Dizon confirmed that this discount is available for use daily by seniors and PWDs.
The government is also considering offering the same fare discount in other public transportation systems.
