In the Philippines, homicide refers to the unlawful killing of another person without qualifying circumstances that would make it murder or parricide.

Under Article 249 of the Revised Penal Code, homicide is considered a crime when a person kills another without the presence of factors like evident premeditation, cruelty, or treachery, which are usually considered in murder cases.

Homicide is punishable by reclusion temporal, which means imprisonment ranging from twelve years and one day to twenty years.

The penalty may vary depending on whether there are aggravating or mitigating circumstances. In some cases, homicide can be classified as reckless or simple, depending on how the act was committed.
