According to a report by the Manila Bulletin, the victims were walking along the roadside when the incident occurred. A report on the incident was also made by ABS-CBN.

Police said the van had been parked improperly, with its handbrake either loosely engaged or not secured at all, causing the vehicle to move uncontrollably and hit the pedestrians.

The deceased were aged 35 and 60. Among the injured were the two children of one of the fatalities, aged nine and three, as well as a 34-year-old woman. All five were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the two adult women were later declared dead.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has directed local social and health workers to immediately extend support and assistance to the affected families.

A follow-up investigation is underway to determine whether the van owner will face legal consequences.

This incident echoes similar recent tragedies involving improperly secured vehicles. In May, a jeepney in Quezon City rolled downhill and crashed into a roadside eatery, injuring four. Earlier this year, in Antipolo, an unattended SUV hit a tricycle, leaving one person dead.

Authorities continue to urge all vehicle owners to strictly follow safety protocols when parking, especially in sloped areas, to prevent such preventable accidents.
