The devastating incident left a couple sleeping inside their house dead, along with a pedestrian who was struck before the vehicle slammed into the dwelling.
According to reports from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Castilla and local police, the SUV, reportedly traveling from Metro Manila en route to South Cotabato, suddenly lost control.
Before colliding with the house, it first struck a man who was standing outside the residence, killing him instantly.
The out-of-control vehicle then plowed into the nearby home, where a couple was asleep. Rescuers faced an arduous task in retrieving the husband and wife, who were trapped beneath the wreckage of the SUV and their damaged home.
Despite immediate response efforts, both individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Tragically, the couple leaves behind their two-year-old child, who was also inside the house during the impact.
The child sustained injuries but was successfully rescued and is currently receiving medical attention.
Authorities confirmed that there were three occupants inside the SUV at the time of the crash. All sustained injuries and were immediately brought to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV was subsequently taken into police custody as part of the ongoing investigation. While family members of the deceased victims have yet to release formal statements, their grief is palpable within the community.
The Sorsogon Police Provincial Office has launched a comprehensive inquiry to determine the exact cause of the driver's loss of control.
Factors such as driver fatigue, given the long journey from Manila to South Cotabato, road conditions, or potential mechanical issues are expected to be part of the thorough examination.
The incident highlights the inherent dangers of long-haul travel on national highways, especially during late-night or early-morning hours when visibility and driver alertness can be compromised.
Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple hom1cide and physical injuries are likely to be prepared against the driver of the SUV, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Forensic teams are also working to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the fatal crash.
The tragic accident has sent shockwaves through the quiet community of Castilla, Sorsogon, serving as a somber reminder of the critical importance of road safety and responsible driving.
Local officials and emergency services are extending assistance to the affected families, grappling with the sudden and devastating loss of their loved ones.
The incident underscores the severe consequences that can arise from vehicular mishaps, particularly when they intrude upon the sanctity of private homes and claim innocent lives.
