A tragic accident in Tabaco City, Albay claimed the life of a truck helper who jumped from a moving vehicle that had reportedly lost its brakes.

According to a report from GTV News Balitanghali on Wednesday, the incident occurred in Barangay Tabiguian. CCTV footage showed the truck hurtling down the roadside at high speed before crashing into several trees.

The vehicle nearly hit a nearby house, alarming residents who witnessed the close call.

Police said the truck came from Camarines Sur and was traveling along a sloped road when the brakes allegedly failed.

In an attempt to save himself, the truck helper jumped out of the moving vehicle. Unfortunately, he sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The truck driver, meanwhile, survived the crash but suffered multiple injuries.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is now recovering under medical supervision.

Authorities have not yet released the names of both the deceased and the injured driver as investigations continue.

Initial findings point to a mechanical failure, though investigators are also considering the possibility of driver error or overloading as contributing factors.

The police are working closely with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to determine the truck’s roadworthiness and to verify whether proper maintenance and inspection were conducted.

Local officials expressed their condolences to the victim’s family and urged transport operators to prioritize vehicle safety to prevent similar tragedies.

This incident serves as another stark reminder of the dangers posed by poorly maintained vehicles, especially on steep and winding roads.

Still in other news, a 16-year-old girl in Antipolo accused a tricycle driver of forcibly taking her to a hotel instead of bringing her home after work around 3 a.m. The victim said the driver ignored her pleas and sped up when she asked to be let off, "binilisan pa niya lalo 'yung takbo ng tricycle niya, natatakot na po ako nun." At the hotel, CCTV showed the driver holding her arm, and the girl said: "hihingi po sana ako ng tulong kaso natatakot po ako sa kanya." The hotel cashier refused to let them check in after suspecting something was wrong, prompting the girl to threaten to report the driver, who then fled the scene, according to ABS-CBN.
