According to a witness, the incident happened just as the businessman was getting inside his black SUV.

“May bigla pong tao na tumakbo. Bigla pong binaril-baril si boss po namin. Apat na beses po ‘yung putok. Tapos po bigla na po tumakbo sa labas, may nag-aantay na sasakyan po roon. Nanginginig po, first time po ako makakita na nambaril na ganon,” the witness recounted.

Fortunately, the victim was not hit and managed to exit the vehicle unharmed.

The gunman immediately fled the scene aboard a sedan driven by an accomplice.

However, patrolling officers from the Makati City Police Station and Southern Police District Special Operations Unit were able to intercept and arrest the suspects at Arnaiz Avenue corner Paseo De Roxas.

“Less than two minutes nahuli agad natin ‘yung mga suspects. Mga Chinese nationals ito,” said Police Colonel Reycon Garduque, Officer-In-Charge of Makati City Police Station.

Recovered from the suspects, aged 44 and 36, were three firearms, bladed weapons, a hammer, packing tape, and other tools.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

“Wala siyang idea. Bigla na lang daw eh. Wala rin naman siyang nakaalitan na mga tao at hindi niya kilala,” added PCol. Garduque.

Authorities are investigating if the suspects are part of a gun-for-hire group and whether they have ties to POGO operations.

Both men refused to give statements and will face charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.
