According to Marilao police chief PltCol. Eulogio Lamqui III, the 54-year-old grandfather shielded his granddaughter when a trailer truck crashed into the gantry of the Marilao Interchange.

Lamqui said the family, consisting of seven members from Parañaque, was traveling to Baguio City for a vacation.

Four of the six survivors remain confined in the hospital for further medical treatment.

The 31-year-old trailer truck driver, currently detained at the Marilao police station, expressed remorse over the fatal accident.

“Pasensiya na ho, hindi ko naman ginusto yun, pagbayaran na lang kung may kasalanan yun,” he said.

Police confirmed the driver is facing multiple charges, including reckless imprudence resulting in h&micide.

The incident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers on the road—and a testament to a grandfather’s selfless act of love that saved a young life.
