A tragic shooting incident claimed the lives of a mother and daughter on the morning of June 15, Sunday, while they were on their way to church in Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur.

The victims were identified as 50-year-old Vangie Tabunda and her 20-year-old daughter, Thea.

According to a report from Brigada News PH, the assailants, who remain unidentified, quickly fled the scene on a motorcycle after carrying out the attack.

Barangay officials confirmed that the suspects escaped before they could be apprehended.

Vangie Tabunda was employed as a Cooperative Development Specialist at the local government unit of Zamboanga Sibugay, according to a statement from a relative of the victims.

Her daughter Thea was reportedly accompanying her mother to church when the fatal shooting occurred.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the motive and identify those behind the killings.

As of now, no suspects have been named, and the reasons behind the attack remain unknown.

The victims' family members are devastated and are calling for justice. They urge law enforcement to act swiftly in uncovering the truth and bringing the perpetrators to account.

The brutal nature of the attack has shocked the local community and raised concerns over public safety in the area.

As the investigation continues, the grieving relatives hope their voices will not go unheard and that justice will be served for Vangie and Thea.

The victim’s live-in partner, a barangay tanod, sustained a gunshot wound to the knee, and another tanod was grazed in the chest after pursuing the fleeing suspects who fired additional shots. Still in other news, a 23-year-old man suffered from physical injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of young men. According to the report of GMA Regional TV, the victim, Mat Ernest Bongo brought his female co-worker home and it was thereafter that the alleged assault took place. He sustained injuries in different parts of his body. Based on the report, the victim was also allegedly robbed by the same group.
