In the Philippines, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is the main government agency responsible for planning, policy-making, and coordination of the entire transportation system, including land, air, and sea travel.
It sets the overall direction and standards for transportation services nationwide.
On the other hand, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is a specialized agency under the DOTr.
Its main job is to regulate and oversee public land transportation, such as buses, jeepneys, taxis, and transport network vehicles like Grab.
While the DOTr handles the bigger picture of transport in the country, the LTFRB focuses more specifically on the operations, safety, and franchise issues of land-based public transport.
