Decomposing body of missing 8-year-old girl found in Iligan City creek

The decomposing body of an 8-year-old girl, referred to as "Janna" (not her real name), was discovered in a creek in Iligan City on the afternoon of Monday, June 9, around 3 p.m., according to a report by Frontline of News5.

Janna had reportedly gone out to play on June 5 but never returned home. Her mother reported her missing later that same day.

Four days later, her remains were found in an advanced state of decomposition, with the lower part of her body unclothed.

Due to the condition of the body, investigators could not immediately determine whether she had sustained other injuries.

PMaj. Zandrex Panolong, spokesperson of the Iligan City Police Office, confirmed that the case is under thorough investigation.

“Yung forensic unit natin, nag-conduct ng SOCO and kumuha sila ng DNA samples doon sa bangkay ng minor para ma-determine talaga natin 'yung cause of death,” he stated.

The police have already identified persons of interest, though no suspects have been publicly named.

Authorities are now awaiting the results of the autopsy and forensic tests to establish the exact cause of death and any signs of foul play.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock, prompting calls for better protection of children and heightened vigilance in neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as investigations continue.

He sustained injuries in different parts of his body. Based on the report, the victim was also allegedly robbed by the same group.
