A devastating fire broke out late Wednesday night in Barangay Buting, Pasig City, claiming the lives of five people, including a one-year-old boy, and injuring three others.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirmed on Thursday morning that the victims include a 45-year-old man, a 39-year-old woman, a 15-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, and the infant.

All five were trapped inside the burning homes and could not escape in time.

Three other children were injured in the blaze.

A 2-year-old boy, a 4-year-old girl, and a 13-year-old girl suffered breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The fire began at approximately 10:46 p.m. along E. Mendoza Street, in a densely populated residential section of Barangay Buting.

Within 10 minutes, the BFP declared the first alarm, and firefighters worked quickly to contain the flames.

By 11:18 p.m., the fire was declared under control.

However, by then, the damage had already been done.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing.

Fire officials also reminded the public to regularly check electrical wiring and ensure fire safety measures are in place, especially in crowded neighborhoods.

The tragedy has left the local community mourning, with neighbors and officials expressing grief over the loss of lives, particularly the young victims who were unable to escape the flames.
