A 20-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attempting to set their home on fire in Sitio Kapakulan, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City, during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 1.

According to Brigada News Philippines, the suspect, identified only by the alias “Bert,” reportedly started the fire by igniting a tarpaulin outside their house.
His mother, who reported the incident, told authorities that the day before the attempted arson, her son persistently demanded money to spend on an online game called Scatter.
She revealed that Bert had been addicted to the game for some time, often showing signs of aggression whenever he wasn’t given money to play.

Despite his troubling behavior, she expressed her continued love for her son, noting that his latest outburst may have been triggered by her refusal to give him money.
“I still love him very much,” she said tearfully, adding that Bert’s anger likely stemmed from the frustration of being denied the funds he demanded.
Police responded promptly and took Bert into custody.
Authorities are now investigating the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the possible influence of gaming addiction on the suspect’s behavior.
The case highlights growing concerns about the impact of online games on mental health and behavior, especially among younger individuals.
As of this writing, Bert remains in police custody pending further investigation and possible charges.
