A 75-year-old man from Central Ambiong, Benguet, died after being hit by a vehicle in the parking area of a mall in Baguio City on May 22, 2025, according to a report from the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO).

The incident occurred at around 1:35 p.m. while the elderly man was walking within the mall's parking area.

He was accidentally struck by a pick-up truck that was attempting to park.

Emergency responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival due to the severity of his injuries.

The BCPO confirmed that the driver of the vehicle is now in police custody.

Authorities said the Traffic Enforcement Unit is currently preparing documents for inquest proceedings, as the driver is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in h&micide.

Police have yet to release the identity of both the victim and the driver, pending notification of the victim's family and further investigation.

The tragic accident has sparked concerns among residents and mallgoers about the safety of parking facilities, especially for senior citizens.

Local officials have urged establishments to strengthen safety measures in parking areas, such as installing clearer pedestrian lanes, speed bumps, and warning signs.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident and remind drivers to exercise caution and remain alert, particularly in areas where pedestrians may be present.

His wife shared that he insisted on voting despite the heat and early crowd, believing his vote still mattered. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
