The incident, which occurred at approximately 3:00 PM, also affected several parked tricycles in the vicinity.

The victim, reportedly a resident of Barangay Cabahog, Cadiz City, was pronounced dead on the spot.

While initial reports did not immediately release his identity, subsequent information from Brigada News Philippines Bacolod identified him as 30-year-old Jomarie Barile.

Barile was riding his motorcycle when the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) electric post collapsed, crushing him.

Ezekiel Kate Escares, Officer-in-Charge of the Cadiz City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), confirmed the fatality and provided initial details.

According to Escares, investigations suggest that a mixer truck, passing through the area, may have snagged a wire connected to the steel post, causing it to fall. The falling post then directly hit Barile as he was driving by.

The exact cause of death is still under investigation by the Cadiz City Police Station.

While the primary impact from the falling post is believed to be the main cause, authorities are also looking into the possibility that electr0cution from the live primary line contributed to his demise.

The incident, which happened suddenly and without warning, sent shockwaves through the busy market area.

The falling electric post also resulted in significant power outages across several barangays within Cadiz City.

NONECO announced that the primary power line's collapse led to electricity interruptions affecting Barangay Zone 1, Barangay Zone 3, Barangay Zone 4, Barangay Zone 5, Barangay Zone 6, and portions of Barangay Zone 2, Barangay Daga, and Barangay Banquerohan.

NONECO immediately deployed teams to address the power disruption and commence repairs on the damaged infrastructure.

Local authorities, including the police and the CDRRMO, are coordinating their efforts to fully ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will focus on identifying the mixer truck involved and its driver, as well as reviewing the safety protocols in place for utilities in densely populated areas like public markets.

The tragedy underscores the potential hazards posed by utility infrastructure, especially when compromised by external factors.

The family of Barile has already been notified, and they are now left to cope with their sudden loss. The community of Cadiz City is urged to exercise caution in areas with overhead lines and ongoing construction or utility work.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of public safety measures and the need for vigilance in urban environments to prevent such accidents from occurring.

Still in Negros Occidental, a live-in couple in Kabankalan City died after fatally hacking and stabbing each other. The victims, Marilie Satinyamian, 26, and Fernan Pacunla, who in his 30s, were found by their neighbors both sustaining fatal wounds after an altercation in their Kabankalan City home on Sunday evening. Results of initial investigation shows that the fatal incident stemmed from an argument over the woman’s return to Bacolod City. Police say the man disapproved of the woman’s plan to her work as a domestic helper in Bacolod City.

In other news, a male individual sustained multiple stab wounds after allegedly being attacked by three colleagues in a parking lot in Barangay Singcang Airport, Bacolod City. Police investigations indicate that personal jealousy, possibly stemming from a relationship with a suspect’s former partner, fueled the violent assault. The victim, identified as a 29-year-old call center agent, is recovering, while authorities are actively pursuing the three assailants who are charged with frustrated hom1cide. Despite visits to their alleged residences, the suspects have not been apprehended, and police are urging them to surrender to potentially reduce their sentences.
