The grandfather sustained second-degree burns on his left arm and face as he tried to escape the blaze and save the children.

Sadly, the two minors were unable to get out in time.

Authorities said the house was made of light materials and the fire had already spread significantly by the time it was noticed.

It was also reported that the household was using a candle for lighting due to a power outage in the area at the time.

Fire Officer 2 Rolin Paulan, an arson investigator from the Bureau of Fire Protection – Bacolod, stated that they are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.

The incident has devastated the local community, serving as a tragic reminder of the dangers of open flames, especially during power interruptions.

Authorities continue to urge residents to take extra precautions and use safe lighting alternatives during brownouts.
