A fried chicken cart was completely destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning, May 15, 2025, along MH Del Pilar Street in Barangay 3, Hinigaran.

The fire broke out around 7:30 AM and was reportedly caused by a gas tank that suddenly burst into flames while the vendor was preparing for the day.

Quick-thinking bystanders alerted authorities, allowing the Hinigaran Bureau of Fire Protection to respond swiftly and prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby establishments.

The vendor, identified as 20-year-old Iber from Barangay Tumina, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, was not harmed in the incident.

According to witnesses, flames quickly engulfed the cart, but firefighters were able to control the situation before it caused further damage.

While Iber was physically unharmed, the incident left him devastated, as his cart was his only source of livelihood.

The entire setup, including cooking equipment and supplies, was reduced to ashes within minutes.

Fire investigators believe the blaze was triggered by a possible gas leak or equipment malfunction.

They are conducting further inspection to confirm the exact cause.

Local officials have expressed concern over fire safety among small vendors and are urging food cart owners to regularly check their gas tanks and equipment to prevent similar incidents.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.

Authorities praised the prompt response of the fire brigade and the cooperation of the community in ensuring the fire was quickly contained.

Still in other news, a 65-year-old man, Nestor Rensales, died after voting in Oas, Albay during the midterm elections. Rensales, a stroke survivor, felt dizzy and collapsed shortly after casting his vote at Oas South Central Elementary School, ABS-CBN reported. His wife shared that he insisted on voting despite the heat and early crowd, believing his vote still mattered. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
