A devastating incident unfolded at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Sunday, May 4, 2025, when a black sports utility vehicle (SUV) careened off the road, crashing through the outer perimeter railing and onto a pedestrian walkway near the terminal's entrance.

The tragic event resulted in the immediate deaths of two individuals.

Emergency responders from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) were among the first to arrive at the scene, confirming the fatalities.

The PRC swiftly mobilized a significant response, dispatching five ambulances from various locations, including the NHQ Tower, Port Area, Pasay, and Manila.

A team of 18 trained volunteers was deployed to provide assistance, and the organization also provided the necessary cadaver bags.

Airport authorities, represented by the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Manila International Airport Authority Security, promptly secured the affected area and initiated a thorough investigation into the cause of the deadly crash.

While the immediate aftermath focused on securing the scene and attending to the victims, NAIA officials confirmed that several individuals sustained injuries as a result of the SUV's impact on the walkway.

These injured individuals are currently receiving the necessary medical treatment. However, the precise number of those injured and the specific nature of their injuries have not yet been officially disclosed by the authorities as the investigation is still in its early stages.

The Philippine Red Cross reported close coordination with the Pasay Police Station and Airport Substation 8 throughout their response efforts, ensuring seamless communication and support during the critical initial hours following the incident.

In an official statement released by NAIA, airport management acknowledged the public concern generated by the incident, particularly due to the rapid circulation of images and videos on various social media platforms.

They urged the public to refrain from engaging in speculation and to rely solely on verified updates that will be issued by the official investigating bodies as accurate information becomes available.

Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the driver of the black SUV involved in the fatal crash has been taken into custody by the Philippine National Police.

The driver is expected to be a key figure in the ongoing investigation as authorities work to determine the sequence of events that led to the vehicle veering off course and causing such a tragic outcome.

The investigation will likely involve a detailed examination of the vehicle, potential contributing factors such as driver error or mechanical malfunction, and a review of any available CCTV footage from the airport premises.

The identities of the deceased and injured individuals have not yet been officially released pending notification of their families.

In news down south, two were confirmed dead and two seriously injured in the fatal head-on collision between a trailer truck and a pickup truck along the Circumferential Road situated in Talisay City, Negros Occidental. The rear passenger of the pickup truck was declared dead-on-arrival at the hospital, evening of May 3, while the vehicle’s driver died early Sunday morning, May 4. Another passenger of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries, while the driver of the trailer truck was also listed as among those injured. Initial police investigation states that the trailer truck attempted to overtake another truck and lost control, causing the huge vehicle to veer off in the lane of the oncoming pickup truck.

In other news, a 52-year-old ex-traffic enforcer was attacked and brutally killed by a group of knife-wielding men while buying food. His son, who witnessed the attack, said a heated argument preceded the deadly stabbing incident. Police authorities were able to arrest one of the suspects while a manhunt is underway to arrest the remaining individuals involved in the crime. Authorities working to determine full circumstances of the fatal attack.
