Most of the victims were Indian tourists visiting the region during a busy travel season.

Among the dead was a Nepali citizen and another individual of Indian origin working in the Middle East, authorities confirmed.

The remaining 25 victims were Indian nationals.

The attack has sent shockwaves across the country and reignited tensions between India and Pakistan.

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated during a press briefing on Wednesday that there were clear “cross-border linkages” to the assault, hinting at possible involvement from groups operating across the Pakistani border.

Pakistan has strongly denied any involvement.

The massacre marks a rare but deeply alarming attack on non-local civilians in the region, long marred by conflict and insurgency.
