“Lumalabas sa kanilang (police) initial investigation na isang tama lang mula sa isang sniper rifle ang ginamit magmula sa isang vantage point,” said PNP public information chief Col. Randulf Tuaño during a press briefing at Camp Crame.
The scene yielded crucial forensic evidence. Police recovered a single shell casing believed to be from a caliber 5.56 Armalite rifle.
The casing was found in what investigators believe to be the sniper's position, giving weight to the theory of a premeditated, long-range attack.
“May nakuha din silang isang basyo ng caliber 5.56. Armalite. May nakuha sila isang shell doon sa possible location kung saan pumwesto yung sniper,” Tuaño added.
Mayor Ruma’s sudden death has shocked the local community, particularly as it occurred in the middle of an election campaign.
Authorities have yet to name any suspects or provide a motive, but investigations are ongoing.
The PNP has pledged to pursue all leads in the case to bring justice to the slain mayor and ensure the safety of political candidates.
