Their rapid response was prompted by the alarming sight of a woman who had already climbed over the footbridge railing, seemingly poised to jump.

Without hesitation, one of the volunteers reacted swiftly, grabbing the woman and pulling her away from the dangerous edge of the footbridge, bringing her back to safety.

The men involved in this crucial rescue are members of the Barangay San Francisco fire and rescue volunteer team.

Barangay Chairman Captain Ryan Tapawan Santor recounted that the fire volunteers had been taking a break at the barangay hall.

They had been on duty throughout the day, assisting motorists as part of the “Bantay-Alalay” program during the Holy Week.

It was purely by chance that the CCTV monitor, conveniently located near the entrance of the barangay hall, provided them with a direct view of the unfolding crisis on the footbridge.

“Sakto nasa pintuan yung CCTV. Nakita nila mismo iyong CCTV na nakatutok sa tulay na nandoon po iyong babae.” Captain Santor explained. “Noong nakita nila na unti-unti nang lumalapit, doon na sila nagtatakbo.”

The proximity of the footbridge to the barangay hall proved to be a critical factor, allowing the fire volunteers to reach the woman in time.

Captain Santor identified Aldrich Salazar as the fire volunteer who took the lead, sprinting towards the footbridge and ultimately pulling the woman to safety.

“Ang ginawa ni Aldrich doon, nagbitaw muna siya ng salita na, 'Ma'am, wait lang' tapos saka niya sinugod,” the barangay chairman narrated.

Following the successful rescue, the barangay authorities promptly contacted the woman's parents, and she was safely returned home.

Netizens have lauded the swift and decisive actions of the barangay's fire and rescue volunteers. Comments online expressed gratitude for their life-saving intervention and their dependable and prompt service to the community.

Barangay Chairman Santor also highlighted the significant role of the barangay's CCTV system in their ability to respond effectively to various emergencies within their jurisdiction.

He emphasized the dedication and training of their volunteers, stating that they are experienced in handling calamities, fires, typhoons, and vehicular accidents, and are on duty 24/7 to serve their community.

This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the vital role that community first responders play in ensuring public safety and well-being.

It also underscores the importance of accessible mental health support for individuals in distress.
