In his statement, Espinosa vehemently refuted Gomez’s assertion that the recent shooting incident he survived during a campaign event was merely a fabrication.

In a report aired on GMA News’ “24 Oras Weekend,” Espinosa directly addressed the actor-turned-politician’s remarks, stating, “This isn't acting. I'm not like him, an actor.”

A key point of contention for Espinosa revolves around the presence of police officers from Ormoc City in Albuera at the time of the shooting.

Espinosa, who sustained injuries along with his sibling and a minor, questioned the authority and motive of these officers.

“Why were his police there? The city director and intelligence officers were even present. Answer that, Richard Gomez, why were they there? Did you order them to be there?” Espinosa demanded, raising serious questions about potential political influence and the involvement of law enforcement personnel from a different jurisdiction.

The Albuera mayoral candidate’s strong reaction was triggered by Congressman Gomez’s public comment labeling the ambush as “scripted.”

The former actor reportedly stated, “Honestly, for me, that ambush was scripted. The acting was bad, the execution was poor,” seemingly dismissing the incident as a poorly staged event where Espinosa sustained a gunshot wound to the lower shoulder, near the chest.

Gomez also mentioned that he was still gathering more details regarding the incident.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) had earlier identified seven police officers from Ormoc City as “persons of interest” in the shooting involving Espinosa.

These officers were reportedly seen in a compound visited by a vehicle that swiftly departed the vicinity shortly after the shooting occurred.

This detail has further fueled Espinosa’s suspicions and his demand for answers regarding the presence and potential involvement of the Ormoc City police.

Espinosa firmly believes that the attempt on his life was politically motivated. He is running for mayor of Albuera against Leyte Board Member Vince Rama.

He alleges that Rama is married to Karen Torres, the sister of Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez, who is, in turn, the wife of Congressman Richard Gomez.

This intricate web of political and familial connections has led Espinosa to conclude that the shooting was directly linked to the upcoming mayoral race in Albuera.

Police Colonel Dionisio DC Apas Jr., the director of the Leyte Provincial Police Office, acknowledged the ongoing investigation, stating, “Technically, they were not at the crime scene, and there is currently no direct evidence or testimony identifying who among them may have been involved.”

This cautious statement indicates that while the Ormoc police are under scrutiny, concrete evidence directly linking them to the crime is still being sought.

Still in other news, West Philippine Sea has now been incorporated by Google Maps into its digital mapping platform. Google did not exactly state as to when the digital mapping platform make the update but a quick search on Monday, April 14, would already show the label “West Philippine Sea” on Google Maps. A search for Scarborough Shoal would also show its location within the contested body of water under the Philippine name. While only a digital recognition, the term itself faces opposition from some in the Philippines, even as officials like Commodore Tarriela strongly assert the claim.
