Two individuals died and 16 others were injured in a road accident that occurred along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City early Sunday morning, April 13.

The incident involved a public utility jeepney (PUJ), a modernized jeepney, and a transport network vehicle service (TNVS) car.
According to police, CCTV footage revealed that the PUJ was speeding and crashed into the rear of the modernized jeepney, causing it to overturn.
"Base po sa kanyang salaysay nung siya po ay unang dinala dito sa ating tanggapan, nawalan nga raw po siya ng control dun sa jeepney after niya pong bumangga doon sa likurang parte ng modernized jeep," said Police Lieutenant Allan Erick Bacalzo, officer-in-charge of QCPD Traffic Section 5.

All the casualties — including the two fatalities and the 16 injured — were passengers of the traditional jeepney.
"Sa ngayon po sumasailalim pa po sa imbestigasyon pero as part of our SOP isasailalim po namin 'yung suspek sa alcoholic breath analyzer test saka po sa drug test," Bacalzo added.
A witness, Jeremias Hernandez, who owns a shoe shop near the accident site, described the moment of the crash.
"Nakita ko na lang may nakabalagbag na jeep dito, ang lakas. Nakita ko bumaliktad ho yung jeep. Ta's may mga pasahero sa ilalim. Natakot na nga ho ako pagtingin ko ho rito sa kabila may dalawang nakabulagta."
One of the fatalities was identified as Marky Angel Pakig, who was supposed to celebrate his 19th birthday on April 23.

Still in Negros Occidental, a 53-year-old woman died and two others were injured after being hit by a pickup truck while jogging in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City. The incident occurred when the group of women briefly stopped their jog to take photographs, leading to the collision with the vehicle. The pickup truck driver, Fernando Oquina, stated that he did not see the women on the road prior to the collision. The family of the victim is determined to file a case.
Meanwhile in other news, a barangay chairman in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan died after he was shot but a still unknown gunman. According to the report of Balitanghali of GMA Integrated News, the victim was driving a tricycle. A man at the roadside then signaled for him to stop, and when he did, he was shot by the perpetrator. The gunman immediately fled the scene, but authorities already have a person of interest.
