Identified as Glennon Salvador Payabyab, the suspect entered a not guilty plea during a court hearing at the Richmond Criminal Court.
The incident came to light on March 31 when the girl’s mother reported to the 121st Precinct of the NYPD about a suspicious communication between her daughter and their neighbor, Payabyab.
Court documents reveal that approximately 20 messages were exchanged between Monday and Thursday.
Authorities also allege that Payabyab attempted to arrange a meeting with the girl.
Upon investigation, police confirmed the texts originated from Payabyab’s phone number.
The NYPD, working with the Protect Our Child organization, monitored the planned meeting. Payabyab was arrested at the agreed location before any encounter took place.
In response to the case, his legal counsel, Attorney Kyle Peter, said: “These are deeply troubling allegations, but they are mere allegations that Mr. Payabyab vehemently denies.
Mr. Payabyab is a respected member of the community with no criminal history or prior accusations of wrongdoing.”
Pending further hearings, Payabyab has been released under strict conditions, including a prohibition from contacting the child involved in any form.
