Meanwhile, according to a barangay kagawad of Barangay Poblacion South, the said men were not residents of their area.

Authorities are still trying to find out if what happened was hazing or initiation rights.

Following the mugging incident, barangay officials promised to implement enhanced patrol procedures.

In the Philippines, hazing refers to any initiation or rite of passage that inflicts physical or psychological harm, suffering, or humiliation as a requirement for joining an organization.

It is strictly prohibited under Republic Act No. 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018, which bans all forms of hazing and imposes severe penalties, including life imprisonment, on those responsible for hazing-related deaths.

Despite these legal measures, hazing incidents continue to occur, often involving violent and secretive initiation rites that lead to injuries or fatalities.

The law holds not only the direct perpetrators accountable but also the leaders and officers of organizations if hazing happens under their supervision.
