The Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) has released an official statement following the tragic death of one of its students, Trisha Macalagay, due to a fire that broke out on campus.

On March 14, 2025, the university extended its deepest sympathies to Trisha's family and friends, acknowledging the immense grief experienced during this difficult time after the incident.

"The Laguna State Polytechnic University expresses its sincerest condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones of one of our students, Trisha S. Macalagay. While no words can bring her back and bring peace and comfort to everyone, we extend our empathy to the family and friends, who are grieving at this most difficult time."

In the statement, LSPU committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, pledging full cooperation with relevant agencies to ensure an objective and urgent inquiry.

"The University vows to thoroughly look into the matter and cooperate with the relevant agencies to ensure that an objective investigation is conducted urgently, and that accountability and responsibility is carried out in this extremely painful time."

Furthermore, LSPU assured that it would provide all possible assistance to Trisha's family, offering prayers, sympathy, and support to aid them in coping with their loss following her untimely death.

"The University commits to extending all forms of help it can to the family of Trisha as we help them in this time of sorrow, offering its prayers and sympathy, and everything it can to help them move forward in recovering from this devastating incident."

The university also affirmed that Trisha would remain in their thoughts and prayers as well.

Irizarry tried to call the police, but Alvelo destroyed her phone and took some belongings from the motel after the brutal incident as well.
