A fisherman from Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte, tragically lost his life after drowning in the ocean.

In a report by TV 5's 'Frontline Pilipinas,' the victim was pulled into the turbine of a power plant located near the shore.

According to reports, the fisherman also got stuck in the fan blades of the turbine, making it impossible for him to escape until he drowned.

The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The company that owns the turbine and the victim's family have already reached an agreement.

In the Philippines, a company may face criminal, civil, and administrative liabilities if its equipment accidentally causes a person’s death, depending on negligence and safety compliance. Criminal charges under Article 365 of the Revised Penal Code for Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide can lead to imprisonment of six months to six years and fines, while civil liability under Article 2176 of the Civil Code may require compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, and moral damages.

Employers can also be held liable under Article 2180 of the Civil Code if an employee causes an accident unless they prove due diligence in hiring and supervision. Additionally, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) may impose fines of up to ₱100,000 per day per violation and even suspend or close operations if there were breaches of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards.
