Police Captain Marlon Danao, chief of the Warrant Section of the Eastwood Police Station, provided details of the circumstances, stating that the victim resided with her aunt, who served as her guardian.
The accused was employed by the aunt at her canteen, working as an all-around staff member.
The victim's aunt filed a complaint with authorities after discovering the relationship.
Police reports indicate that the suspect went into hiding after becoming aware of the complaint filed against him in 2023.
The accused admitted to having a relationship with the underage victim while also being in a live-in partnership.
He claimed to be unaware of the legal consequences of engaging in a relationship with a minor, citing a lack of knowledge regarding statutory molestation laws.
He also stated that his live-in partner was aware of his relationship with the victim, and insisted that he did not go into hiding.
The accused is now detained at the Eastwood Police Station, and no bail has been recommended for the statutory molestation charge he faces.
In the Philippines, the age of majority is 18, and the age of consent was raised to 16 in 2022.
The Eastwood Police Station emphasized its commitment to intensifying efforts to apprehend those who exploit women.
