It can be recalled that a couple of hours earlier, Philippine Air spokesperson, Colonel Maria Consuelo Castillo, revealed in a press briefing that they lost contact with the said fighter jet shortly after midnight of March 4.

“Shortly after midnight on March 4, 2025, an FA-50 fighter jet, went missing during a Tactical Night Operations. The aircraft lost communication with the rest of the flight involved in the mission minutes before reaching the target area,” Colonel Castillo said.

She added that they tried reestablishing contact with the missing fighter jet but failed to do so.

Colonel Castillo said that this is the first major incident involving PAF’s FA-50 fighter jets.

The PAF spokesperson during the press briefing also revealed at the time that the country’s air force were already conducting search operations.

“The PAF is conducting extensive and thorough search operations, utilizing all available resources, to locate the missing jet fighter aircraft. Our primary concern is the safe return of our aircrew,” she said during the press briefing yesterday, March 4.

“We are hopeful of locating them and the aircraft soon, and ask you to join us in prayer during this critical time,” the PAF spokesperson said.
“We are hopeful that we will still be able to recover. We are more concerned about the safety of the aircrew right now. And we are still very optimistic that they are safe,” Colonel Castillo added.

The search operations, as EASTMINCOM recently revealed, ended with the discovery of the remains of the two dead pilots.

The challenging terrain of Mount Kalatungan, known for its dense forests and steep slopes, presented significant obstacles to the search efforts.

The loss of these pilots is a profound blow to the Philippine Air Force and the nation as a whole.

FA-50 fighter jets play a crucial role in the country's defense capabilities, and the pilots who operate them are highly trained professionals.

Authorities are now focused on conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
