A convoy carrying a mayoral candidate came under attack in Pilar, Abra, on Friday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of a village chairman and a driver, while another individual sustained injuries.

Philstar reported that the victims were identified as Froilan Bueno, the chief of Barangay Quillat in Langiden town, and his cousin Kevin Bueno.

According to police reports, Kevin was found lifeless inside a sport utility vehicle at the ambush site, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Froilan, who sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Another passenger, Sonny Bisares, was wounded in the leg and was transported to Seares Hospital in Bangued for medical attention.

Authorities believe the intended target of the attack was Artemio Donato Jr., a former mayor of Langiden who is vying for the mayoral seat in Pidigan in the upcoming May 12 elections.

The attack occurred in Sitio Palicad, Barangay Poblacion, while Donato and his group were en route to Villaviciosa town. Fortunately, he emerged unharmed.

The Cordillera police have launched a manhunt for the assailants, with Lt. Col. Carol Lacuata confirming that an investigation is underway to determine the identities and motives behind the ambush.

When police authorities came to inspect what was inside the suitcase, they found a bloated body of a minor girl. According to the police, the body was in fetal position, clothes were intact, but wounds were found on her body.
