In the Philippines, if someone accidentally starts a fire that results in death, they may be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide under the Revised Penal Code.

According to Article 365, the penalty for this offense is prisión correccional, which ranges from six months to six years. If multiple people die, the penalty may be increased, and if the act is considered gross negligence, the punishment could be more severe.

Additionally, under Republic Act 9514, or the Fire Code of the Philippines, individuals may also face administrative fines and civil liabilities if the fire was caused by negligence, such as failure to follow safety regulations.

The actual penalty will depend on factors such as the severity of negligence, the number of casualties, and the extent of damage. Courts will ultimately determine whether the incident was a pure accident or the result of reckless behavior.
