“Itong grupong ito ay naglalaro ng cara y cruz (an illegal coin tossing game). At ayun nga nagkapikunan at nagkaroon ng gulo at nabugbog itong biktima at kinuha 'yung kaniyang pera,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Paul Macasa Sabulao, chief of police of the Rodriguez Municipal Police Station.
The suspects allegedly took P3,000 from the victim, which prompted him to file charges against them.
On February 5, the court issued arrest warrants against the five men involved. Alias “Ben,” 29 years old, was the first to be apprehended at his residence in Barangay Balite.
After his arrest, Ben was questioned by the police about the whereabouts of his companions and subsequently identified the second suspect.
The accused, alias “Al,” 30 years old, was also arrested at his home. The two suspects were identified by another individual involved in the robbery who is already imprisoned at the BJMP in Rodriguez.
The arrest warrant was served to the third suspect in the detention facility.
Rodriguez Police reported that another accomplice of the accused had already died, while one more remains at large.
In their defense, the arrested men claimed they were only trying to break up a fight and that the victim was intoxicated at the time.
“Wala po kaming kinalaman doon. Hindi ko sila pinakialaman. Bahala sila, baka madamay pa ako,” said alias “Ben.”
“Naglalaro po kami. Lasing po 'yung nagreklamo sa amin. Ngayon, 'yung isa niyang kalaban, napikon sa kaniya dahil sa kulit niya. Ngayon nagpang-abot sila. Awat kami nang awat,” said alias “Al.”
The accused further claimed that no robbery occurred after the altercation.
“Hindi, kasi siyempre lasing nga siya. Akala niya kinukuha. Eh hindi niya alam, talo na siya. Kaya doon din napikon ‘yung una niyang nakasuntukan. Dinamay niya kami nang hindi naman dapat eh,” said alias “Ben.”
The accused are currently detained at the custodial facility of the Rodriguez Municipal Police Station.
