In the Philippines, intentionally killing someone constitutes murder, as defined under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code.
Murder is punishable by reclusion perpetua, which entails imprisonment for 20 years and one day to 40 years, without eligibility for parole.
Regarding the act of burning the victim's body, while there is no specific law explicitly penalizing the desecration of a corpse, proposed legislation such as Senate Bill No. 2267 seeks to address this gap by defining and penalizing such acts.
However, as of now, desecration may be prosecuted under related offenses or result in civil liabilities.
Therefore, an individual who kills someone and then burns their body would face severe penalties for murder, and may also be subject to additional charges or liabilities related to the desecration of the corpse.
