Authorities are currently investigating whether the assailant was a sniper or used a silenced weapon.
The assassination attempt against Vice Mayor Datu Omar Samama occurred this morning, as reported by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao this past Monday.
Samama was attending the Shine Convergence Program in Barangay Maguislang and was in the middle of his speech when he was suddenly shot.

The vice mayor was immediately taken to a lying-in clinic before being transferred to the Cotabato City Medical Center for further treatment.
The gunman remains at large, and the 6th Infantry Division suspects that a sniper rifle might have been used in the attack, or that the perpetrator’s firearm was equipped with a silencer.
“Yan yung initial description ng mga nandodoon sa area kasi malayo yung pinanggalingan. Pero inaalam pa rin natin yung details kung malayo ba ang pinanggalingan o baka may silencer lang,” said Lt. Col. Roden Orbon, 6ID Spokesperson
“So inaalam pa rin natin 'yan. We are still coordinating with our PNP counterpart,” the army official added.
The distance from which the shot was fired, coupled with the lack of immediate identification of the shooter, suggests the possibility of a planned assassination attempt.
The Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) condemned the attack on Samama.
They described the assassination attempt as “senseless” and “cowardly,” further stating that it was an attack on peace, democracy, and the rule of law in the Bangsamoro region.
“Such acts have no place in a society striving for justice, good governance, and meaningful change under the leadership of the BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim,” the MILG statement emphasized.
The ministry called on authorities to immediately apprehend those responsible for the crime.

Still in Mindanao, a Grade 10 student in Davao sustained injuries on his face after being hit by a hollow block. The incident, which was captured on video, happened outside a diner in Barangay Crossing Bayabas, Toril district, in Davao last Friday. In the video, which was shared on GMA News’ Unang Balita, showed the victim standing when the suspect attacked him. Authorities identified the suspect as a 16-year-old resident of the barangay where the victim lived.
In other news, a grandmother died after she was stabbed by her own grandson in Brgy. Pahanocoy, Bacolod City. The victim, based on iFM Bacolod 943's report was 66 years old while the suspect is 19 years old. Based on the investigation of the police, there ensued an argument or commotion between the suspect's mother and his grandmother. The suspect then allegedly got irritated with the noise that the commotion brought about and thereafter stabbed his grandmother several times.
