A dark cloud hangs over Sitio Pagbahan, Barangay Alacaak, Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro, following a violent incident that claimed the lives of two farmers and left two others wounded.

The tragedy, which occurred on Thursday night, has sent shockwaves through the community and highlighted the ongoing issue of land disputes in the area.
According to initial investigations, four farmers were resting in a hut near the Pagbahan River when they were abducted by three armed men wearing bonnets.
The victims, Clempoy Barrientos and Rustom Bayan, both active members of the CAFGU (Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit) and the Katasan Farmers Association, were killed on the spot.

Their companions, Jorly Maximo and Salvador Bang-asan, also members of the Katasan Farmers Association, sustained gunshot wounds.
The assailants led the farmers near the Pagbahan bridge where they were made to lie face down before being shot.
Despite the attack, Maximo and Bang-asan managed to escape, though not without injuries.
Residents who heard the gunshots rushed to the scene and brought the two wounded farmers to the hospital.
Police Captain Aldrin Tividad, chief of the Sta. Cruz Municipal Police Station, pointed to a land dispute as the motive behind the gruesome crime.
The two deceased farmers were reportedly petitioners in a contested 55-hectare land area in Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro.
This revelation sheds light on the complex and often dangerous dynamics surrounding land ownership and access in the region.
The Occidental Mindoro Provincial Police Office has formed a Special Investigation Task Group to focus on the case and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The task group will delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident, gather evidence, and interview witnesses to identify the perpetrators and uncover the full extent of their involvement.

Based on the investigation, as reported by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, the tricycle tried to overtake a motorcycle. That was when it collided with a forward truck that was carrying motorcycles.
In other news, three barangay officials in Abdullah Sangki in Maguindanao Del Sur were injured after they were shot by unknown assailants on Thursday. In the report of Efren Yunting Mamac of GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, the officers were the barangay captain, one barangay council officer and the other is the treasurer. They were brought to the hospital, but the assailants were able to escape. The three victims were on a motorcycle when they were shot by those riding on a minivan.
