In a heartbreaking incident in Antipolo, Rizal, a father of one was killed in a devastating road accident while simply crossing the street to buy bread.

Renato Lao-ang, 35, a father to a one-year-old child with a pregnant wife, met a tragic end early Tuesday morning in Barangay San Jose.

CCTV footage captured the horrific sequence of events. Shortly before 5:00 a.m., Lao-ang was seen crossing the road, presumably heading to a nearby bakery.

He paused in the middle of the street, waiting for a line of vehicles, including several trucks, to pass. Suddenly, an MPV, traveling at high speed, struck Lao-ang from behind. The impact sent him flying across the road.

Tragically, at the same moment, a 16-wheeler truck was approaching in the opposite direction.

Lao-ang landed directly in its path and was run over by the massive vehicle.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Manongdo, head of the Antipolo City Police, the truck driver had no chance to react and brake in time, as the victim was struck by the MPV and thrown into the path of the truck. The truck’s wheels from front to back ran over the victim.

Manongdo confirmed that the truck driver surrendered to authorities following the accident.

However, the driver of the MPV, who initially struck Lao-ang, fled the scene and remains at large.

The police chief met with Lao-ang’s family, showing them the CCTV footage of the tragic event. The family has chosen not to press charges against the truck driver, who has reportedly reached a settlement with them.

Lorena, Lao-ang’s wife, who is due to give birth in March, made an emotional plea for justice.

“Sana yung nakabangga sa asawa ko magpakita na,” Lao-ang’s wife, Lorena, stated in an emotional plea.

Lorena is due to give birth this coming March.

“Hustisya ang kailangan sa asawa ko. Hindi maibabalik ang buhay ng asawa ko,” Lorena added.

Authorities are continuing their search for the driver of the MPV, who is now the subject of an active manhunt. This tragic incident has left a young family devastated and serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving.

In other news, a tricycle driver ends up in jail after attempting to bump a policeman at a Comelec checkpoint. The incident happened in San Marcelino, Zambales, where police authorities were conducting a routine Comelec checkpoint. According to Police Regional Office III Regional Director Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo, the tricycle driver acted suspiciously upon approaching said checkpoint. This prompted several police personnel to pursue the tricycle but instead of complying, it maneuvered recklessly, injuring a policeman in the process.

Still in other news, a family of three almost met a tragic end when the motorcycle they’re riding in fell down when a dog crossed its path. GMA Regional News shared a CCTV footage from an establishment nearby captured the incident. In the footage, one can see the motorcycle carrying the rider, a woman and a child traversing the designated motorcycle lane. All of a sudden, a dog crossed their path, sending all three of them tumbling down with one narrowly missed by the tires of a passing SUV.
