A high-ranking official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) was among the fatalities in the recent mid-air collision that occurred between a military chopper and a US passenger jet over Washington DC.

According to a GMA News report, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed the death of the Filipino PNP official.

Secretary Remulla also said that the PNP officer is on official travel at the time of his death.

Meanwhile, PNP Public Information Office acting chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuano, in a press conference, identified the PNP high-ranking official as Police Colonel Pergentino Malabed, Jr, the chief of the PNP Supply Management Division.

He also said that Col. Malabed was there to conduct a pre-delivery inspection of 2,675 units of all-purpose vests.

“PCOL Malabed was on official travel at the time of the incident, fulfilling his duty as a dedicated police officer—committed to the service of protecting and securing both the PNP and the nation. His untimely passing is a profound loss to the PNP, where he served with honor, integrity, and dedication throughout his career,” the PNP, in its official statement, said.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his bereaved family, loved ones, and colleagues. The PNP is committed to providing them with all necessary support during this difficult time,” the statement also said.

It can be recalled that the video of the SG destroying the “sampaguita” being peddled by the young girl has gone viral. It prompted the management of the mall where the SG is assigned to dismiss him and issue a statement regarding the matter.

Still in other news, the Philippine National Police is already on the trail of a person of interest in the murder of Mervin Guarte. According to ABS-CBN, the POI is a tricycle driver. The police also stated that the POI allegedly has long hated the athlete. Mervin is a two-time gold medalist in the Southeast Asian Games.
