Four children in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, were locked inside their home by their own mother.
The mother explained she did it out of fear that her children might get harmed outside while she was away trying to find a livelihood.
A neighbor reported the situation, prompting the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children in Punta Engaño and the Women and Children Protection Desk of Lapu-Lapu City to intervene.
The children were taken to the barangay hall, where they were fed and given enough time to rest and sleep.

The 29-year-old mother of the rescued children said in an interview by Lou-Anne Mae Rondina for GMA Regional TV which aired in '24-Oras,' she went out to look for a source of income for her kids' needs.
She added she locked them up because she feared they might get hurt once they got out of their house. Although, she admitted what she did was wrong.
The children are now under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), which is assessing the mother’s ability to properly care for them.
