Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte today, October 7, 2024, filed his Certificate Of Candidacy for the mayoralty position in Davao City.
In a video shared by ABS-CBN News, the former president can be seen alighting from a vehicle and ushered by his security and staff towards the area where he’s going to file his COC.
It can be recalled that earlier, the former president has expressed his desire to go back to his former position as mayor.
His running mate and son, current Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, will be his running mate.

The former president, before winning the 2016 elections as president, was a longtime mayor of Davao City.
Meanwhile, Omar Duterte, the son of Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo “Polong” Duterte, has also filed his COC to run for the Davao City second district representative.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He left Malacañang on June 30. The newly inaugurated President of the Philippines is Bongbong Marcos who got 31 million votes in the May 2022 elections. The new Vice President of the Philippines is VP Sara Duterte, the daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Almots a month ago, the former president filed a case against DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr and other government officials. This was in connection with the storming of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound in Davao City in the then-search of KOJC founder, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy. The preacher has since then surrendered to authorities. Former President Duterte filed a case of malicious mischief against Abalos and several police officials.
Meanwhile, PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil also announced previously that the former president may face an "Obstruction of Justice" case because of his pronouncements then about Pastor Quiboloy. At the time, the PNP Chief revealed they were studying the statements of former President Duterte and were waiting for witnesses if there is a basis for the filing of a case under PD 1829.
