During a recent sit-down appearance on Karen Davila’s interview show, the R&B Queen and her husband, former basketball player Rich Alvarez, looked back at the early days of their relationship. When Karen asked Kyla exactly when she realized she was falling in love with him, Kyla admitted that the spark was almost instant.
Rich happened to be Kyla's very first boyfriend, and because she describes herself as a very traditional and conservative person, his old-school approach won her over right away. However, their very first date night came with a hilarious twist.
"Our first date, he did not invite me. He invited my parents to dinner," Kyla shared with a laugh. "So parang, 'Ah, gusto ko siya.' But then he forgot to invite me! My parents were the ones he invited. Kasama ba ako diyan? O si mommy and daddy lang?" she added.

Instead of getting upset by the mix-up, Kyla found the entire situation incredibly endearing. She noted that while other guys in the past would only send text messages to test the waters, Rich was the very first man who showed true, active sincerity.
"What a gentleman," Karen remarked, visibly charmed by the story.
Kyla added that Rich was never intimidated by her protective family. He would consistently visit her at home to court her properly, even if it meant making conversation in the living room while her parents kept a close eye on them.
"Hindi siya natakot. Kasi usually natatakot sila sa mommy tsaka sa daddy," Kyla added.
